Browser Implementations

Since one of the intentions for Interactive HTML is to create library which is usable among a wide variety of browsers, it needs to be designed with a number of different browser architectures in mind. To this end, the library is being developed under the X implementations of two existing browsers:

NCSA's Mosaic Browser

NCSA'a Mosaic for the X Window System, version 5. Mosaic represents a base-line browser implementation; it was the original browser upon which the WWW first started to become popular, and is available on a wide variety of platforms. It incorporates NCSA'a HTML Widget, a publically available widget class for displaying HTML, upon which browsers may be based.

The iHTML library has been incorporated into the 2.5 beta 5 version of Mosaic, and uses the Python interpreter for a scripting language.

WWW Consortium's Arena Browser

The World Wide Web Consortium's Arena is an experimental browser which is used as a testbed for implementing new HTML features. It is built on top of the latest version of the WWW Consortium's Reference Library, providing a platform upon which to experiment and ensure conformance with upcoming WWW standards.

There is not yet a version of Arena with the iHTML library.
